Should You Judge A Book By Its Cover?

it’s funny where business lessons creep up on you. recently, during a trip to the library, an everyday occurrence suddenly struck a chord…

As I watched my little boy rifle through stacks of books at top speed, plucking out his choices, seemingly at random, I realised there was actually nothing random about it.

He was – quite literally – judging books by their covers. His first impression of each book was deciding whether he would find out more or cast it aside and move onto the next one.

During our formative years, we’re often told never to judge a book by its cover aren’t we? We use it as a metaphor to remind ourselves that, if we just scratch the surface, we can find hidden depths and traits we would otherwise have missed. We learn not to make assumptions based on a person’s appearance or initial impression. All good lessons.

However…

The lesson doesn’t quite hold up when it comes to businesses. Our first impressions can actually tell us a lot about what kind of service we can expect to receive or whether this is a company we can trust.

In the video above, I’ll explain a little more…
