HELP! I’VE FALLEN OUT OF LOVE WITH MY BRAND…
It’s happened to us all. You wake up one morning and the outfit you once loved just doesn’t work for you anymore.
It used to look so great – it was so ‘you’! But overtime, it got a little worn around the edges, the colour faded. Perhaps it’s a little baggy, or a little tight around the seams. No big deal right? Your style had changed anyway, you’d moved on. Just a normal part of life – we change, we grow.
Maybe you’ve had it with a house, a car, a hobby – heck, even a person! We outgrow things. We fall out of love with them. And when we do fall out of love with something, there’s no sense hanging onto it, so we move onto something that suits us perfectly.
So what happens if the thing we’ve fallen out of love with is our brand?
There are some tell-tale signs. Maybe you find yourself embarrassed at networking events when handing over business cards, or you find yourself making apologies for your site before people have even seen it? Do you find yourself thinking ‘well it’ll do’ when putting together graphics for your social media site or – gulp – your clients. (Word to the wise: ‘It’ll do’ will rarely do…)
Not to worry! Just like that worn-out jacket or too small house, your brand has done its job but now it’s simply past its sell by date. It happens.
And here’s a secret – it happens to designers too.
So, today, if you’re feeling itchy and unsatisfied with your brand – ask yourself ‘Does it fit anymore?’
If the answer is no, it’s time to take the leap – it’s time to rebrand!
You may be wondering why I’m talking about this with such fervour. Well friends, I too have felt that squeeze of an ill-fitting brand. It was time to retire my old look and move onto something bigger, brighter and fresher. Something that summed up my business (and its ambitions!) to the whole world.
So. You’ve made the decision that it’s time to rebrand. But there’s something still holding you back. It’s a big step right?
Well, I’m here to tell you my top 3 reasons why a change can do you – and your business – a whole world of good.
1 – It’ll give you a lightning bolt of confidence
There’s something about a fresh new look that reinvigorates and inspires. With a new brand, we feel the urge to do those little things we always thought we should be doing for our businesses. Always wanted to start a newsletter? Get out there and network more? It’s a fresh start, a bright new day. You’ll be able to channel this inspiration and start ticking things off your to do list like nobody’s business. Like an amazing hair cut or a game changing outfit, updating your brand is sure to make you feel like a million dollars. With that feeling comes confidence, and you know what follows confidence? Success!

2 – It will help you work out what hasn’t been working so well (and give you the opportunity to fix it!)
There’s that old saying – if you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got. I may be paraphrasing there, but the message is clear. You’ve got to shake things up if you want to move to the next level. A rebrand is golden opportunity to seriously trim the fat that’s been weighing your business down. Be that a colour scheme that isn’t getting your noticed amongst your competitors or a name you settled for at the beginning because you needed something quickly – if it isn’t working, it’s got to go.

3 – It’s an opportunity to ‘get with the times’
Remember around the turn of the century when there were a ton of companies with ‘2000’ in the name. Chances are they were looking pretty dated only 2 or 3 years later. This is an extreme example, but the point stands. Maybe you went with something that was the height of fashion when you set out on your business journey. As time creeps on, this ‘uber-chic’ look is going to start to look rather dated and unappealing. As crazy as it sounds, even colours go through trendy periods (I remember a few years back everyone wanted their logos lime and grey, mimicking a campaign M&S had just launched).
Alternatively, perhaps you picked a name that years ago you thought was wonderful and now, as your business has matured, it makes you want to cringe every time you utter it out loud. You want to assure your customers that your business is one that will stand the test of time. A ‘trendy’ logo is going to do the exact opposite for you.
Hopefully this is the inspiration you need to take your brand to new heights!
If you think it’s time to give your business that awesome brand boost – let’s talk. You can be the business person you want to be and great branding is one of the best ways to get there.
